Concept: Developed a series of digital advertisements promoting a guest host of choice for Amateur Night at the Apollo— I decided on comedian Josh Johnson. The challenge was to design visually compelling ads while adhering to strict content requirements, ensuring all necessary text and key design elements remained consistent across the series. The project focused on balancing creativity with clarity to effectively capture the energy and excitement of the event.
Process: The design process began with thorough research into the Apollo’s brand identity and the energy of Amateur Night. I then sketched out multiple thumbnail concepts to explore different layouts and compositions. The initial drafts, however, fell short of effectively capturing the event’s vibrancy. Reevaluating the approach, I refined the design direction and finalized one ad size before expanding the concept to the remaining two. After two rounds of critique and iterative adjustments, the final set of advertisements successfully maintained visual cohesion while meeting all project requirements.
