Magazine Spread

Lexon x Keith Haring

Year: 2024

Type: Student Project

Role: Graphic Design, Publication Design, Writing, Photography

Prompt: Tasked with writing an article for Communication Arts magazine about detailed production techniques of a
specific class production-related item (of choice) from the MoMA Museum store. The goal of writing the article was to analyze printed packaging and publications techniques, reverse engineer production techniques found in marketplace items, learn to describe creative work, including technical execution, study and describe design, composition, and strategy, and express the findings in writing to an audience of peers, and to build upon skills in magazine layout with grids

Process
: The first step for this project was visiting the MoMA museum store and selecting an item that could be analyzed within the realm of print production. I selected the Lexon mini speaker, specifically the Keith Haring collaborative edition. Part of the requirements of the article’s design was that only self-photographed images were allowed, so I took detailed photos of the product in store. I then analyzed the product and wrote the article; both the analysis and content were revised over time. After sketching thumbnails of the layout, I began the first draft of the print design, ensuring to only include the typefaces present within the packaging in the layout. After receiving critique, I adjusted the second and third drafts to be more consistent in spacing and color, thus finalising the design below.
